Project Update ~July~

'sup.

I realized I've never posted any updates since the first demo, so I figured I'd do that.

Release date

There's a release date, 2024 Q1! Well, more like a release period. But still, that's pretty big, right? I'm feeling anxious already.

What's new in the last updates?

Glad you asked, I'll highlight the most important features:

Version v0.2.0 (May 11, 2023)

  • Animations: I'm really excited about this one! So, when players talk about certain ideas, little animations play showing whatever the characters are describing. I feel like ideas are best explained visually, and I think it'll be really cool  to show all the solutions of the mysteries like that.
  • Hints
  • Rank system: You earn points by answering questions correctly, and lose points by answering incorrectly or asking for hints. You get a rank at the end of each level based on your accumulated points. The idea is to reward players who really solved each mystery instead of brute-forced by clicking on every answer.  Although naturally, people can play however they like.

 Version v.0.2.2 (June 11, 2023)

  • Auto-save: The game auto-saves on every answer, so you can resume where you left off whenever you exit the game (it'll be more relevant on longer levels).
  • Transcript screen: So you can check old dialogue.

Steam page

Another thing I've done pretty recently is putting up a Steam page. Why Steam and not Itchio? Well, because I don't want to spread myself too thin on different platforms. In a perfect world, I'd focus all my marketing efforts into a single platform, gather lots of interest in the game, have the platform decide it's a good idea to show the game to even more people, and have it snowball from there. Reality won't be so kind, but that's the idea of releasing the game only on Steam. I'll eventually release it on Itchio too, just not sure when.

Cool... But what about new cases tho?

Right. So, first of all, all cases have already been designed. I'm working right now on implementing them.

In short, there's going to be 4 cases with 2 extra levels in the full game. And before anyone who beat the demo in 10 minutes panics, the cases get progressively more complex and challenging. I'm estimating the length of the entire game to be around 3 hours long.

I have a lot of faith on the mysteries and their solutions, so look forward to them!

I've also been cooking up a few more on the side, but their fate will depend on how well the release does. Fingers crossed.

Soooo yeah, those are the most important things! I'll go back to working, but I'll going try to be more active on somewhere. Probably twitter for now, which I've been kind of ignoring. I don't really do social media, so. I'll figure it out though. Until next time!
